Harsh realities of life in a higher league !

Normally at this time on a saturday, I'm sitting down with a pint or a cuppa and silently toasting another great result for our lads, !   sadly after today's baptism of fire it looks like i'm going to be hunting out a few cats to kick on a saturday afternoon !,  I have a feeling that this is going to be a very long season. Well today looked good on paper, facing our old friends from Maidenbower again, the sun was shining and Washington / Wembley looked good with pristine straight-ish white lines, a brand new respect barrier and new kit, appearances can be deceptive however as we just didn't turn up today, I am afraid to say that the Maidenbower lads showed us what to expect with better passing, better running, more determination and very good finishing.  All I can say is that it's back to the drawing board and "must do better" goes on this report, ! Three goals to one down at half time and all we could do was chase the game, unfortunately that left us horribly exposed at the back and the maidenbower midfield and strike force took full advantage to score four more, so our one effort seemed to be no consolation at all. Oh well at least the Washington rabbits were safe in the Maidenbower goalmouth !!! poor things, i've been filling their holes up all week, somehow I reckon that they got the last laugh. Man of the Match for us today was Ed Simpkin, after being handed the captaincy for a trial period responded in the way I always knew that he would.

Fixtures out

Hi All Welcome back to the new footie season and another year hopefully of progress for this group of lads plus a few new members, please look at the fixtures and get them in your diary's, (there will also be cup / plate games to add when those fixtures are out)  as you will see we are playing each team in our league three times ! and not twice as is the norm, this is due to the fact that there are only seven teams in the C league this year, so for what I believe is the first time ever each team will play the others three times.  So we embark upon a new crusade to see if we can gain back to back promotions, lets hope the gods are with us and we have friends in high places putting in a word or two on our behalf.   The fight starts on the 4th sept against our good friends from Maidenbower, so welcome back Terry and the lads.  For the coaching team the fight has already started with training in full swing (well almost anyway), the new kit arrived and the Rabbits at washington taking cover !  Any holes in our Wembley-esk pitch will bring swift retribution !!!.   (I have an OOZIE this year now)  Please don't forget too the charity fundraising day in Memory of our great friend and coach Julian, it takes place at Watersfield on Sunday  29th August,   All U13 Lads are needed as we are taking on the Girls team that Julian also used to coach, (should be very interesting I think !). details can be found on this web site and from Jenni Butler or myself.
